Sudden FWA room space.

  • Mar. 20th, 2010 at 12:20 AM
I suddenly have an open slot in our Room at FWA for Thurs - Mon.   Looking to fill..

I know it is late notice, but we had a last minute cancellation.

Room is with Laphin and Electropaw.

And unlike most room shares..  we are not all anal about the silly rules list..  as we are there to party just the same..
In Norway we have two national tabloid newspapers, VG and Dagbladet. Dagbladet prints a little over 100.000 newspapers, approx 1/3 of VG. Though this number seems small, it is the 3rd largest newspaper in Norway and is at every store, gas-station and kiosk in the country.

Today a photo of furries where features on the front cover, top right. Dagbladet FREDAG,an insert magazine to the Friday edition had the story, spanning 8 pages, several pages being dedicated to large photos of Fursuiters.

The article was pre-approved by furries before being published, and gave a pretty good description of what we are all about. Preferring to be somewhat anonymous, I did not contribute much to the article except fact-inputs, but it was fun to read the "The Norwegian furry branch started in 1994 when a lonely Lion King fan stumbled across a furry forum on the internet", since that was me. Yah, all alone back then. We are somewhat between 100-200 furries now.

The article is very focused around a furmeet held in Oslo, a few furries are pictured without suits and with names given. It talks about the different reasons for being furry, all from liking anthro art, to having a desire to be the animal. It also mentions how most furries do not want to be recognized as furries due to the bad media coverage in CSI and similar.

Though not putting us in a bad light, I worry that many will regard us as freak regardless, as we are something they do not understand.

The online Dagbladet.no is on Monday having a "net-meet" with two furries, me and Kal, where people submit questions and we answer. We will have to see what sorta question comes in, it is somewhat scary.

The full article, with exception of a fact box giving a few more facts on furries, and with only a small selection of the photos, is here

http://www.dagbladet.no/2010/03/19/kultur/dyr/norge/nettmote/fredag/10924441/

It is Norwegian, mebbe use Google translate. Or mebbe someone will translate. Mebbe me...

Updates follow.

Sometimes

  • Mar. 19th, 2010 at 2:11 PM
Maybe there is a reason why when you used to be with someone you loved for such a long time like in years, you just get very attached to them like you are a part of their life. But, when you both separate and the other person does not want to be in a relationship at the moment and want to stay single, you kind of forget about that and over think yourself a little too much, thinking you are still with them and end up accidentally causing a lot of stress towards the other person, making them lost and confused in plenty of things due to pressure.

I did this mistake and I am sure I probably stressed him out a little too much about everything to the point that he wants to distance himself from me. I want to say to you (not mentioning any names but you know who you are) that I am sorry that I added up more stress in your life and hope you still care about me and that we can at least stay either as close friends, brothers, lovers or etc. Please forgive me.

FWA: Plans and Info

  • Mar. 18th, 2010 at 2:07 PM
Ok, here is the latest as far as what I know for FWA. So far, two roommates have decided they weren't financially able to attend, thus kind of making it harder on our room situation. So, apparently the new plan is we're staying with Chee and another friend, so that at least is something a little less stressful on me as I gear up for next weekend. To those asking, I am not dj'ing the dance this year, as they've decided to go with another format, so I'll be spinning with Jaspian and his room party for those that still want to come and listen to me. I'll be doing a drum & bass/hardcore set with turntablism, so come and hang out even though it'll be less glamorous than the dance obviously. Since HTID was cancelled, I decided to go to FWA anyhow, seeing as I won't have any major plans until May when I start doing large club shows again, so hopefully everything will get back to a scheduled , smooth pace by the summertime. Anyhow, as far as FWA, since I'm not being dragged around heavily to play at 50 different room parties (I'm only doing 2 that I know of thus far), that gives me time to hang out more with my friends, which is my number one priority this year at cons. Only cons I'm even scheduled to dj so far is FA:U and Nekocon, so other than that, I have no excuse to not chill more with people. So hopefully I'll see some of you there this year, at FWA or another convention.

Tigeris, Goliath, and Pup get in tonight, so I'll be hanging out with them for at least tonight and tomorrow. For those going to the Wave, I might still be there to do the regular bboy thing.

ps: R.I.P. Nujabes. It always pains me to read that someone under the age of 40 dies suddenly, especially given the degree of talent he had. Some people are taken far too early, and it really keeps reminding you that anyone can go at anytime. Never take things for granted.
I forgot to mention this in the last post. Does anybody want to see my Herbie made painted portrait at FWA art show? IF I don't get enough comments (about 40 to 50). I don't bring it.

Here is what I am bringing back with me. It looks exciting. :D

Just making sure...

  • Mar. 17th, 2010 at 4:15 PM
A while back I got an email from Kage mentioning some difficulties the AC staff was having with the post office regarding their P.O. Box. So, in the interim, people were being told to send it to an alternate mailing address.

So, here I am, getting ready to send out my table registration when it occurs to me that I don't know if that issue has been resolved or not. Can I send it to the P.O. Box listed on the registration form? Or, should I send it to the alternate address?

If it's the alternate, what would that address be again? I was hoping to send it out before the post office closes today if possible.

FWA caravan?

  • Mar. 17th, 2010 at 4:02 PM
I have not seen any updates on this..  Are there any details on the FWA caravan?

As of now, I have not found a ride..  so I'm opting for 3 options..

Still find someone to ride up with  (splitting gas/parking is no issue)

Or find others needing to ride up, and drive my van (can fit up to 3 others with luggage) and split the fuel charges.

Or I forgo the caravan and just fly up.

Anyone?

I will draw your character for $5.

  • Mar. 17th, 2010 at 3:05 PM
Hello guys!

I am getting ready to start offering commissions, but of course, I need to build up a commission portfolio to show people and get some practice in. I'd be happy to make an inked and colored penciled drawing of your character for the low price of FIVE DOLLARS, paid for with Paypal.

Yes! For the incredibly low price of FIVE DOLLARS, you will get a nice picture of your character, or any other animal you want me to draw, really. Any sort of critter is accepted, as long as your request is rated PG-13.

Here are a few of my best pieces:
Kiarell (gryphon) - Please ignore the wings, otherwise, a good piece.
Degus - Yes, I do small furry creatures as well.
Budgie - But my speciality, and one true love, is birds.
Wolf - Also a ton of fun to draw. Maybe you could get one with wings.
Lovebird - A pretty blue color mutation.

If you're interested in helping a starving college kid make a little cash, please email me at black.satin.feathers@gmail.com. Much thanks in advance.

PS: I will be cross-posting this to other furry/art communities, sorry if it turns up on your Friends page twice.

PSS: If you like my artwork, you can see more legitimate stuff at www.psittalux.com.

Hal G. P. Colebatch

  • Mar. 17th, 2010 at 11:55 AM
He is a barrister, a poet, adviser to the Australian Navy on international law, and an SF author with more than half a million words in print. He is a Man-Kzin Wars author and therefore furry-appropriate, and my writing partner for a couple of the finest stories in the series, and the best friend I've never met.

He'd also be delighted to be GoH at FurCon 2011. I asked. He's recovering from chemotherapy (it was successful), and I was concerned about his health being good enough, so I told him that I'd suggested him.

Hal is a Renaissance man and one king-hell author. And an Australian would be ideal for this.

More detail here:

http://www.the-rathouse.com/HalColebatch.html

--though it needs updating. (A while back some of his friends were going to run him for a seat in the Australian legislature. He was too busy.)

Dante's Inferno;

  • Mar. 17th, 2010 at 8:57 AM
I've yet to play this on live but....any opinions? I think single player story mode rocks. The graphics are amazing & the storyline actually holds my attention. I wish there were less repetitive monsters (how many skeleton ghouls of the Underworld ARE THERE?) & the "levels of hell" go by a teensy bit fast, but otherwise this game rocks. 8/10 in my opinion....then again I enjoy games like Left 4 Dead 2 & Beautiful Katamari sooo.....

Anyone out there playing Dante's Inferno?
